Common questions
What height does my balustrade need to be?
It depends on the building and location. Use our guarding height checker in Tools, then send drawings so we can confirm.
Can you refurbish existing balustrades?
Yes. We regularly carry out dismantle, store and refit packages for building safety works.
What is the minimum balustrade height in the UK?
Under Approved Document K, guarding in a single-family dwelling is at least 900 mm on stairs, landings and internal floor edges, and 1100 mm on external balconies and roof edges. Other buildings have their own minimums, so check your building type or send us the drawings.
What is the 100 mm rule for balustrades?
Where children under five may be present, a 100 mm sphere must not pass through any opening in the guarding, and it should not be easy to climb.
Do you supply glass balustrades?
Yes, as steel or stainless frames with glass infill panels, and we can include handrails to suit. The glass type and thickness follow the loads for the building.
