- Weight and section: heavier sections cost more to buy, handle and coat.
- Fabrication: end plates, holes, stiffeners and splices add workshop time.
- Finish: primer is the cheapest; galvanising and intumescent coatings add cost.
- Delivery and access: city deliveries, restricted hours and hand-balling add time.
- Installation: lifting, propping and working at height on site.
- Quantity: repeating items cost less each.
