Execution and marking
Structural steelwork shall be fabricated to BS EN 1090-2, execution class EXC2 unless noted otherwise, by a fabricator holding BS EN 1090-1 factory production control certification. Provide UKCA marking and a Declaration of Performance.
Materials
Hot-rolled sections and plate to BS EN 10025-2 grade S355J2 unless noted. Hot-finished hollow sections to BS EN 10210-1 grade S355J2H. Provide inspection certificates to BS EN 10204 type 3.1.
Bolting
Non-preloaded bolt assemblies to BS EN 15048, property class 8.8 with matching nuts and washers, unless noted. Galvanised assemblies where the steelwork is galvanised.
Welding
Welders qualified to BS EN ISO 9606-1 and procedures qualified to BS EN ISO 15614-1. Weld quality to BS EN ISO 5817 quality level C unless noted.
Hot-dip galvanising
Hot-dip galvanise to BS EN ISO 1461 after fabrication. Vent and drain holes to be provided by the fabricator in accordance with BS EN ISO 14713-2.
Duplex coating
After galvanising, prepare the surface by sweep blasting or etch priming and apply a polyester powder coating to the colour specified, to the coating manufacturer’s system for galvanised steel.
Guarding
Balustrades and handrails shall resist the horizontal line loads in BS EN 1991-1-1 and its UK National Annex for the occupancy category. Heights and openings to Approved Document K; infill shall not permit passage of a 100 mm sphere where children may be present.
Tolerances
Fabrication and erection tolerances to the essential tolerances of BS EN 1090-2, with functional tolerances class 1 unless noted.
