Permanently fixed steel ladders give access to roofs, plant and mezzanines. In the UK they are commonly designed to BS 4211.

- Rest platforms on long climbs.
- Safe exit at the top, with handholds or a self-closing gate.
Finish and fixing
External ladders are normally hot-dip galvanised and fixed with brackets designed for the wall or structure behind.
