The right stair depends on the space, the use and the look you want.
- Straight flight: the simplest and cheapest. Needs a long run.
- Dog-leg: two flights with a half landing. Fits a shorter footprint.
- Quarter-turn: turns 90° at a landing or winders, useful against two walls.
- Spiral: treads around a central column. Very compact; best for secondary access.
- Helical: a spiral without a central column. A feature stair with a higher cost.
- External escape stair: galvanised, open grating treads, built for fire escape routes.
