Most mezzanine floors in commercial buildings need building regulations approval because they add floor area, change escape routes and carry loads.
What building control looks at
- Structure: the frame, deck and foundations for the stated floor load
- Means of escape: stair widths, travel distances and the number of exits
- Fire: whether the frame and floor need fire protection
- Guarding: edge protection heights and pallet gates
What we provide
Calculations, general arrangement drawings and the stair and guarding details. Your building control body confirms what else they need.
Planning permission is not usually needed for an internal mezzanine, but check with your local authority for retail floor space.
