A new steel bridge to replace the old crossing over the beck at Darley Mill, a historic mill being converted into homes near Harrogate in North Yorkshire.
We modelled the bridge in Tekla and issued the plan, sections and 3D view for approval. The structural engineer approved the drawings with one change: slotted holes in the bearing plates at one abutment so the deck can move with temperature. We added the slots to the drawings and issued the full fabrication package.
The deck is carried by three universal beams at 2 m centres on bearing plates fixed with resin anchors. The balustrade posts stand on bolted base plates, with closely spaced vertical bars between the rails. Everything is S355 steel, hot-dip galvanised for life outdoors over water.
